Boy injured after being struck in crosswalk near Baggs Elementary

A 12-year-old Cheyenne boy was injured Thursday afternoon after he was struck by a vehicle on his way home from school.

It happened at the intersection of East Pershing Boulevard and McCann Avenue near Baggs Elementary School around 3:45 p.m.

Police spokeswoman Alex Farkas says the boy was trying to cross East Pershing Boulevard in the school zone crosswalk when he was struck by an oncoming vehicle traveling at a low speed.

“The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by ambulance to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center,” Farkas said in a new release.

Farkas did not know how serious the boy’s injuries were.

“The driver of the vehicle, a 16-year-old male (from Cheyenne), remained on scene to assist officers with their investigation and was issued a citation,” Farkas said.

The incident remains under investigation by Cheyenne police.
