Howard Holland obituary –

Howard V. Holland Jr. Suffolk – Howard Virginius Holland Jr., 82, passed away peacefully at his home on May 30, 2008. A native of Nansemond County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Ima and Howard Virginius Holland Sr., and was preceded in death by his brother, Melvin Holland. Mr. Holland was a farmer and served his country in World War II. Mr. Holland was a devoted and lifelong member of Holy Neck Christian Church, where he was a member of the Men’s Bible Class, served on the Board of Trustees, was a former deacon, and also served on other committees of the church. He was a charter member of the Holy Neck-South Quay Ruritan Club and was a member of McAllister Masonic Lodge No. for 57 years. 185. Mr. Holland served on the Community Electric Co-operative Board, the Virginia Peanut Growers Association Board, the Farm Service Agency Board and the Nansemond County Farm Bureau Board. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Ellis Hudson Holland; a daughter, Cathy H. Walton and husband Bert of Suffolk; two sons, Bert Holland and wife Rhonda of Richmond and Dale Holland and wife Jeanette of Suffolk; a sister, Audrey Jackson and husband Mac of Gates County, North Carolina; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A special thank you to Heartland Hospice. A funeral will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Holy Neck Christian Church by Rev. Doland A. Talbert, with burial in the cemetery with Masonic rites.
