Meet the Tennessee native ahead of the FedEx Forum

play

Nate Bargatze comes to the FedEx Forum. He will stop in Memphis on Friday evening during his ‘The Be Funny Tour’.

The Tennessee native has seen his career explode in recent years. Between a Grammy nomination and hosting NBC’s “Saturday Night Live,” Bargatze has had a busy time in recent years.

Here’s what you need to know about the comedian ahead of the event.

Why Bargatze is called ‘the nicest man in stand-up’?

Born in Old Hickory, Tennessee, Bargatze moved to Chicago in 2001 to pursue his comedy career. He has since followed in the showbiz footsteps of his father, a former clown turned world-class magician whose influence can be seen in his 2015 Comedy Central debut special, “Full Time Magic,” and his debut album, “Yelled at By a Clown’. ”, which reached No. 1 on the iTunes Comedy Charts and remained on Billboard’s Top Ten Comedy Charts for weeks.

One thing Bargatze is known for in his comedy is that he doesn’t make fun of others and he doesn’t swear. Bargatze is also known for drawing material from his roots growing up in a Christian household.

This choice of material has earned him the title of “nicest man in stand-up” according to The Atlantic. He doesn’t even swear, mainly because he couldn’t imagine doing so in front of his parents, he told Fox in February.

Nate Bargatze’s ‘Saturday Night Live’ episode

Bargatze hosted the third episode of season 49 of “Saturday Night Live” last October. He was part of a number of funny sketches during the episode, including surprise cameos from Christopher Walken, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl and ‘Top Chef’ host Padma Lakshmi.

In one of the escape skits, Bargatze dressed as George Washington giving a pep talk to his soldiers to remind them what they are fighting for. Bargatze’s Washington told the troops: ‘We are fighting for our own country. A new nation where we choose our own laws. And choose our own systems of weights and measures.’

The clip has been viewed more than 9 million times on You Tube.
