Authentic New Mexico cuisine at Okinawa restaurant

Japan is home to such great dishes as sushi, tempura and ramen, and now it looks like it’s also home to sopapillas?

Sopapilla from New Mexico

The name is a great tribute to the historic city of Mesilla, New Mexico!

Their menu looks varied and the pictures look great. Just look at these burritos (complete with a homemade tortilla)!

New Mexican food is a distinctive cuisine rooted in the traditions of the Southwestern United States, especially influenced by the culinary practices of Native American, Spanish, and Mexican cuisines. It is characterized by the use of local ingredients, especially chili peppers, which are central to many dishes; and the Hatch green chile is what makes New Mexico dishes stand out. Fortunately, you can also find Hatch Green Chili at Mesilla Kitchen.

I haven’t found much more information about the restaurant; Is this owned by a former New Mexico resident? What I did discover is that Mesilla Kitchen started as a food truck.

Only last March did it become an established restaurant in Okinawa; the official address is 4 Chome-16-1 Misato, Okinawa, 904-2153, Japan.

New Mexican cuisine is an art form, so it’s exciting to see it flourishing in other parts of the world!

Here you can stay informed about what Mesilla Kitchen is doing.
