Loot Season 2 Finale Ending Explained by Maya Rudolph, Creators

Note: The following story contains spoilers from the season 2 finale of “Loot.”

The Season 2 finale of ‘Loot’ brought a lot of big changes, including a hilariously chaotic cliffhanger for viewers to obsess over as they waited for a possible Season 3.

The Apple TV+ comedy series wrapped its second season this week, with Molly (Maya Rudolph) learning that her Space for Everyone initiative attracted the attention of some powerful new enemies, while her growing feelings for Arthur (Nat Faxon) led to rash decisions — which led to her possibly leaving town indefinitely with Nicholas (Joel Kim Booster) in the episode’s final scene.

“This is kind of like an ‘Empire Strikes Back’-style ending, where she experiences a personal and a professional setback and she says, ‘I’m out of here,’” “Loot” co-creator Alan Yang told TheWrap.

“One character aspect of billionaires in general that applies to Molly is: if you mess up, you have your own plane. You can run away when most people can’t; they have to sneak back to their homes,” co-creator Matt Hubbard added. “With season 3 we’ll see what the consequences of that decision are.”

As Molly and fellow billionaire Grace (Ana Gasteyer) celebrated their partnership to turn Space for Everyone into a national press effort, a Vanity Fair profile of the women caught the attention of a Wyoming “trillionaire” who was curious to a tour of the renovated hotel for the homeless in Los Angeles – apparently with an interest in joining the team’s mission.

After a seemingly successful day with the Wyoming mogul (played by comedian Allan Havey), Molly received an invitation to have a final chat with him before a formal decision was made. She was met by a room full of cloaked individuals who forced her to let go of the initiative and keep the “order of things” intact so that billionaires can continue to keep their wealth for themselves. Although she stood by their intimidation tactics, Molly was saddened to hear that Grace joined their efforts, allowing her to continue with Room for All on her own.

Elsewhere, Sofia (Michaela Jaé Rodriguez) reunited with her boyfriend Isaac (OT Fagbenle) in New Orleans after taking Molly’s advice to take the plunge and choose love over her work responsibilities. Spurred on by Sofia’s success, Molly visited Arthur after her meeting with the billionaires and confessed her feelings for him. Their passionate kiss was interrupted by Arthur’s model girlfriend Willa (Hayley Magnus). Skipping over the aftermath of the encounter, viewers watched as Molly angrily dragged a suitcase and Nicholas onto a private jet – the destination was unclear, but Molly was determined to put all the drama behind her once and for all.

“They could go anywhere… We haven’t stopped talking about it and we’re pretty uncomfortable about it at this point,” Rudolph told TheWrap.

“I like the idea that the cornerstone of their relationship is a ‘no questions asked, we have each other’s back’ kind of thing. This is certainly not the first time I have chased this woman across a tarmac with her luggage, I will eventually find out what that reason is this time,” Kim Booster added.

Apple has not yet made a decision on the future of “Loot,” but Rudolph, who is also an executive producer of the series, said there is no shortage of stories the comedy can explore in the future.

“There is such a wonderful opportunity for us to have public conversations about wealth inequality and what can be done, to propose ideas… We live in a time where we see endless examples of ridiculous wealth, so we are still but just scribbling. surfacing all these things that are happening in the world,” Rudolph said.

All episodes of ‘Loot’ are now available to stream on Apple TV+.
