Smith slams USPS over news of transfer of North Platte Mail Processing Center to Denver

Today, Rep. Adrian Smith (R-NE) released the following statement after the United States Postal Service announced it will transfer operations of the North Platte, NE Mail Processing and Distribution Center to Denver, CO and close the North Platte facility convert into a Local Processing Center.

“This decision – leaving the entire Third District, more land area than the state of North Dakota, without a USPS mail processing and distribution center – is yet another in a long line of actions that reflect the USPS’s lack of concern for the American demonstrate rural areas. With U.S. Postal Service customer satisfaction and on-time delivery rates declining, there is strong evidence that moving operations to Denver will mean greater delays and inefficiencies. Furthermore, it appears that our clearly expressed concerns were simply ignored by the USPS, as they did when processing at Grand Island and Alliance facilities was consolidated under Omaha in 2013 and 2015. This is unacceptable for Nebraska communities, businesses and seniors who rely heavily on USPS for the delivery of prescription drugs.

“Failure to restore customer trust is a losing strategy. To achieve the reforms the USPS desperately needs to overcome its serious budget problems and fulfill its constitutional mission to serve all Americans, USPS must increase its focus on improving service delivery.”
