Police have broken up the last remaining pro-Palestinian encampment on a New York City campus near the Fashion Institute of Technology.

NEW YORK CITY (WABC) — Police have broken up the last remaining pro-Palestinian encampment on a New York City campus near the Fashion Institute of Technology.

It happened late Tuesday evening and resulted in about fifty arrests.

Some of those arrested had attended a rally in Union Square and then gone to college.

The encampment at FIT began on April 25. Some NYPD officers wore riot gear, while others wore their standard uniforms.

The scene was reminiscent of what we saw last week as police cleared demonstrations and encampments at universities and colleges across the city, including NYU, The New School and Columbia University.

Columbia University changed the plan for the commencement ceremony by forgoing their university-wide graduation.

Mayor Eric Adams praised the work of the NYPD.

“The NYPD is doing a great job. It’s a challenging situation. Thousands of demonstrators in the city. They treat people with the humanity, the dignity they deserve under very challenging circumstances. People are throwing objects at them and doing things that I just think a small number are trying to make the situation worse,” Adams said.

In the meantime, the mayor is personally offering a $5,000 reward for arrests in connection with this week’s vandalism of the 107th Infantry Memorial statue. That’s in addition to a $10,000 reward from Crime Stoppers.
