Ken Burns has a French bistro in NH that you have to try

America’s favorite documentary filmmaker lives in New Hampshire

If you’re from New Hampshire, you know we have some great filmmakers and actors in these parts. Ernest Thompson, of “On Golden Pond” fame, lives in the lake area. Of course, Happy Madison Productions was created by one of our favorites, Adam Sandler, who hails from Manchester, New Hampshire.

You may not know that Ken Burns lives in Walpole, New Hampshire. He has a beautiful little French bistro that you will love, but that’s not the best part of the story.

Bringing French cuisine to New Hampshire

Walpole is located in Cheshire County, near Keene. Ken has lived there for decades. He owns a small French restaurant called The Restaurant at Burdicks at 47 Main Street in Walpole, New Hampshire. It’s small and of course the food is delicious. It is modeled after a quaint French bistro.

When I went I was surprised at how down to earth the restaurant was. I was halfway expecting to see people all dressed up, but it was the exact opposite. People dressed in plain clothes enjoyed delicious French cuisine in a rural setting.

The service at Burdicks’ restaurant was exceptional. The staff was friendly, but definitely paid attention to what you needed before you asked. I’m not sure how they knew before that I wanted another glass of pinot, but it happened.

Bring it home

If you don’t want to eat in the restaurant, you can visit the Walpole supermarket and take the ingredients home. What a great little place for the community and tourists when they visit.

The real reason to visit Burdicks’ restaurant in Walpole, New Hampshire

Attached to the restaurant is the chocolate shop LA Burdick Handmade Chocolates. That’s actually the reason I’m making this trip. They have the cutest little chocolate mice that you almost don’t want to eat (almost). They are as delightful as they are beautiful.

You’ll have to take a road trip to visit this place, but you MUST make a reservation. You can imagine how much traffic the place gets, and staffing is a problem for many restaurants. Click here and make your plans!
