June 27, 2024 – Currently, 49 major fires have burned 204,348 acres in 13 states. Alaska has 26 active major fires. About 7,800 wilderness firefighters credit nifcFirefighters and support staff are deployed to incidents across the country. A Type 1 Incident Management Team is assigned to the Fresno June Lightning Complex in California. The Pioneer Fire in Washington, South Fork/Salt Fires in New Mexico and Oak Ridge Fire in Colorado each have a complex incident management team.

A fuels and fire behavior advisory has been issued for California, highlighting the abnormally high levels of fine fuels across the state. These abundant fuels increase the risk of wildfires spreading quickly, even without high winds. It is imperative that we all do our part to recreate responsibly and prevent forest fires.

The National Interagency Coordination Center’s National Predictive Services Staff has released the National Significant Wildland Fire Potential Outlook for June through September. For more information on the current outlook, visit the Outlook page on the NICC site.

With hot and dry conditions in many states, wildland firefighters need your help to prevent wildfires. Please note that fireworks are not permitted on your public grounds. We all play a valuable role in preventing forest fires. Recreation responsibly by checking local fire restrictions before heading to your favorite spot to enjoy the outdoors.
