USGA Senior Open starts Thursday

NEWPORT, R.I. (WPRI) — The U.S. Senior Open returns to Newport this weekend as the tournament kicks off Thursday and runs through Sunday. The talented field includes two Rhode Island natives, Billy Andrade (PCD graduate) and Brett Quigley (Barrington graduate).

“I’m just so excited because you know my brother and all these guys we play with and we try to beat each other week in and week out,” Andrade said. “Take a chance to see and experience a state, a city and a golf course that is so cool. It’s just a magical place and I’m just excited to be a part of it.

“I’m looking forward to this weekend. It’s actually great that we’re here in Rhode Island. Being a Rhode Islander, it has been a long wait,” Quigley said. “You know, now that it’s being canceled. I know a lot of players are very excited to be here. The history of this golf course and everything about Rhode Island seems very good so far.”
