Governor Pillen declares a state of emergency for counties along the Missouri River

LINCOLN, NE – Governor Jim Pillen is taking proactive action to mitigate the impact of any flooding along the Missouri River. Today he declared a state of emergency for the provinces bordering the river, immediately releasing state funds and resources should the need arise. The proclamation grants the Adjutant General of Nebraska the authority to activate these resources and protect life and property.

Heavy rains in southeastern South Dakota, northeastern Nebraska and northwestern Iowa have resulted in severe flooding. Last weekend, Governor Pillen authorized the deployment of a military helicopter and a four-person National Army Guard crew to assist the Iowa National Guard with search and rescue operations in and around Sioux City.

Governor Pillen continues to receive updates from the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the US Corps of Engineers on the status of the Missouri River. Both agencies are closely monitoring the impact on communities as the crest of water continues to flow downstream in the coming days.

The Governor’s proclamation is included in this release.
