Microgrid for electricity in downtown La Crosse could be financed with a state grant

A new idea is being developed to supply energy to La Crosse government buildings and a local university.

The La Crosse County Board is being asked to accept a $100,000 state award for energy innovation. The money would fund a study into organizing a microgrid in downtown La Crosse.

The independent energy project is intended to provide electricity to La Crosse City Hall, county buildings and Western Technical College, all located close together on the north side of downtown.

The county board will discuss and vote on the grant at its regular monthly board meeting next Thursday.
