Bryson DeChambeau injury updates: Why LIV golfer had physical therapy during US Open round 3

Bryson DeChambeau led the rankings through Round 3 at the US Open. But he had to take a short break during Saturday’s program.

The 30-year-old LIV golfer requested physical therapy after 10 holes at Pinehurst No. 2 in North Carolina because of tightness in his right hip.

DeChambeau finished at 7 under overall and 3 under in Round 3 on Saturday.

Here are the latest updates on DeChambeau’s injury and how it could affect him heading into the final day of the 2024 US Open.

9:11 pm: After finishing Round 3 at the top of the US Open leaderboard at 7 under, DeChambeau commented on his right hip injury. He said he had been working on it for a while.

“Yeah, it was harder to get through with a few shots. It’s OK. I’ve had it for a long time now. It’s just something that showed up,” DeChambeau said.

He pointed to the PGA Tour schedule and his own training schedule as contributing factors.

“The two weeks I had off after the PGA, I was really grinding and focusing on some things. I couldn’t really rest,” he said. “I put a little bit of pressure on myself, a little bit of pressure on the horse. That’s why that’s going to happen.”

Bryson DeChambeau injury history

DeChambeau’s right hip pain is the latest ailment for the golfer, who has suffered a handful of injuries since turning pro in 2016.

He is not opposed to playing through injuries, as he showed in Round 3 of the US Open. DeChambeau requested physical therapy after the 10th hole and returned to birdie the 11th.

The LIV golfer has admitted he did not play 100% during the 2022 campaign as he battled injuries to his left hand and left hip. He suffered a hairline fracture in his left hand and a torn labrum in his left hip.

“I’m probably around 80% right now,” DeChambeau told Sports Illustrated. “I can’t go all out. I can’t do speed workouts. I can’t practice for hours as if I have to figure things out.”

He ultimately opted for wrist surgery in April 2022, a few months after he started experiencing problems with his hand. In the run-up to the 2022 season, he suffered from left hip pain for more than two years.
