Utah Hockey Club announces name and uniforms

The NHL’s newest team will be known as the Utah Hockey Club for its inaugural season. Scroll below for Utah’s future names and uniforms.

Name of the Utah Hockey Club

It is official.

The Arizona Coyotes franchise has been sold to Utah Jazz owners Smith Entertainment Group. Utah acquires franchise, player and hockey operations division.

Coyotes owner Alex Meruelo retains the Coyotes’ intellectual property.

The Utah Hockey Club will play its first official season in 2024-2025.

“Today is a monumental day for the state of Utah as we officially close the creation of a new NHL franchise,” said Ryan Smith, Governor of Utah Hockey Club and Chairman of Smith Entertainment Group. “The NHL has been great to work with during this process and has provided us with invaluable guidance and support. We have a lot of work to do – training camp starts in less than 100 days – and we couldn’t be more excited about what’s to come.”

For the first season, Utah chose to go with “Utah Hockey Club” for the first season. It will be based in Salt Lake City. However, that name is only temporary.

Fans can now vote on which team name will be used in the future, starting with the 2025-2026 season.

The choices: Yeti, Venom, Mammoth, Blizzard, Outlaws and Utah Hockey Club.

This voting round starts today and will remain open until June 20.

This will be followed by another round of voting.

Utah Hockey Club uniforms

Utah Hockey Club jerseys will feature “Utah” on the front during the 2024-2025 season.

According to a press release, the color palette consists of “stone black, which represents the darkness of night in the mountains and the volcanic rock of the Utah deserts; salt white, illustrating both the snow on Utah’s peaks and its famous salt flats; and mountain blue, representing Utah’s rich winter sports history and clear skies more than 230 days a year.”

The home uniforms will be rock black with Utah on the chest and feature salt and white and mountain blue stripes down each arm, the bottom of the jersey and on the socks.

The away kits feature rock black and mountain blue stripes with stair lettering.

The Utah Hockey Club has colors similar to the colors of the Utah Jazz. The Hockey Club and Jazz have the same owners.
