Two skiers killed after being caught in an avalanche in Utah following late spring snowstorms, sheriff says – Sun Sentinel

Two backcountry skiers were killed and one was rescued Thursday after an avalanche in the mountains outside Salt Lake City. The slide occurred after several days of spring snowstorms. Utah County Sheriff Rosie Rivera says rescue crews responded just after 10 a.m. to an avalanche reported near Lone Peak in the Wasatch Range southeast of Salt Lake City. One of the skiers was rescued around noon. Rivera says a search party was able to fly over the slide area and confirm the other two skiers were dead. Their families have been informed. Rescue teams were expected to attempt to recover their bodies on Friday, weather permitting.
