More than $1.5 million awarded to 41 North Texas nonprofits to advance equity » Dallas Innovates

Communities Foundation of Texas and The Dallas Foundation announced the recipients of their 2023-2024 Equity Fund Cycle Grants, awarding $1.57 million in grants to 41 North Texas nonprofits working to accelerate equity in communities that they said have been historically and systematically disenfranchised .

“Investing in organizations that advance and build equity in Greater Dallas is fundamental to our work and critical to our mission to ensure individuals and families can reach their full potential,” said Julie Diaz, president and CEO of The Dallas Foundation, in a statement. “These grantees, selected from a very large pool of applicants, are delivering real, measurable transformation and shaping the future of Greater Dallas for generations to come.”

The organizations said grant funding from the Communities Foundation of Texas prioritized North Texas nonprofits focused on advancing equity and building community power through civic engagement, narrative change and/or coalition building and community organizing. They added that the grantees are addressing a variety of issues ranging from environmental equity, healthcare equity, LGBTQ+ rights, human and civil rights, disability rights and racial equity.

The nonprofits also prioritize putting community voices at the center of decision-making, recognizing the residents they work with as key stakeholders.

From housing to workforce development to health

The Dallas Foundation said its Racial Equity Fund Grants has invested in Dallas County nonprofits working in housing and neighborhood infrastructure; economic empowerment; workforce development; education; citizen participation; and health.

CFT and TDF said they have launched the application for a common equity grant to simplify the process for nonprofits while increasing the reach and impact of the funding available.

“Communities Foundation of Texas is committed to advancing equity as one of our strategic priorities to fulfill our mission and achieve the vision of building thriving communities for all,” said Wayne White, president and CEO of Communities Foundation of Texas, in a statement. “We truly believe we can accomplish more when we work together to collectively fund needs in our community, and it makes it easier for the nonprofits seeking funding for their work.”

The Dallas Foundation said its Racial Equity Fund is made possible by donations from NexPoint Philanthropies, the Reis-Bisor Foundation and the Dallas Foundation’s Community Impact Fund, among others.
