Myrtle Beach area, one of the wealthiest cities in SC

One of the wealthiest cities in South Carolina is in Horry County.

Briarcliffe Acres is a city halfway between Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach and is one of the top 10 wealthiest cities and towns in the state.

With a population of 479 people, the median household income is $134,375, according to the US Census’ 2022 American Community Survey.

Located near the ocean, the city has a private beach and homes sell from $600,000 to more than $2.5 million. The average home price is almost $700,000, according to Zillow.

It was listed as the fourth richest city by MSN.com in 2024 and number 6 by Forbes in 2023.

On both lists, Kiawah Island was listed as the No. 1 wealthiest city with a median household income of $366,000 and a median home price of $1.4 million. Number 2 was Sullivan’s Island.

The Forbes list also included neighboring Pawleys Island among the wealthiest cities. The Georgetown County community has a median household income of $130,000 and a median home price of $1.2 million.

The Forbes list is based on a combination of four factors, including median household income, median household income, median home value and median property taxes paid.
