India and Pakistan battle in cricket in New York – AsAmNews

A sold-out crowd of 34,000 people filled a pop-up stadium in New York’s Eisenhower Park on Sunday for the dream match between India and Pakistan, the BBC reported.

Those who couldn’t get in or afford the high ticket prices watched for free at Citi Field, where the New York Mets normally play.

The Tribune Express reported that rain delayed the match, but that did not appear to dampen the fans’ mood. The fierce rivals have not played each other in New York since Pakistan defeated India in 1989, 24 News reported.

“Who cares about the weather? I’m going to Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Jasprit Bumrah!” a fan from New Jersey told the BBC.

This time India defeated Pakistan by six runs.

Rubal Sikka, who emigrated from India 25 years ago, remembers playing in Eisenhower Park as a child. Now he saw some of his idols playing on the same field.

“We never imagined that our dream players, people and athletes that we look up to would end up playing in the exact same place where we played,” he told the Tribune.

Some fans paid $2,000 for tickets on the secondary market for this event.
