Dr. Chandra Sekhar becomes richest minister in Modi 3.0 cabinet with assets worth Rs 5,705 Crore

Pune, June 10, 2024: Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, an MP from the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), has emerged as the richest minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s third cabinet, with declared assets worth Rs 5,705 crore. This important statement not only puts him at the top among his colleagues in the new cabinet but also marks him as the richest candidate in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Dr. Pemmasani was born on March 7, 1976 in Burripalem, Guntur District, Andhra Pradesh and comes from an agricultural family. His parents, Pemmasani Sambasiva Rao and Suvarchala, also raised his brother Ravi Shankar Pemmasani. Despite his early years spent in Burripalem and Narasaraopet, Dr.’s academic journey began. Pemmasani, because of his father’s hotel business, with high ambitions.

After completing his 10th class in 1991 and an intermediate course in 1993, he secured 27th rank in the EAMCET exam, which earned him a seat at Osmania Medical College in Hyderabad. His pursuit of medical excellence took him to the United States, where he completed his post-doctoral training in internal medicine at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania. During this time, he represented Pennsylvania in a national medical knowledge competition for two consecutive years.

The career of Dr. Pemmasani further flourished while working as an attending physician for approximately five years at prestigious institutions such as Johns Hopkins University and Sinai Hospital, where he was involved in teaching residents and medical students.

In addition to his professional achievements, Dr. Pemmasani has been deeply involved in philanthropic activities. In Dallas, Texas, he worked at a free medical clinic that provided health care to uninsured or underinsured members of the Indian community. Back in India, he played a crucial role in providing free drinking water to residents of the Palnadu region of Andhra Pradesh for over a decade. He also donated land for a community facility in his father’s village and funded several educational initiatives for children and adults.

His wealth and philanthropic contributions contrast with his humble beginnings, showing his journey from an agricultural background to the richest minister in Modi’s new cabinet. With a net worth declaration of Rs 5,705 crore, he surpasses other high-profile politicians including Jyotiraditya Scindia, who has the sixth highest net worth among the winning Lok Sabha MPs and has also been sworn in as a minister.
