Washington County student arrested for taking toy gun on school bus

WASHINGTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – A Washington County youth was arrested Wednesday afternoon after a report of a gun on a school bus.

Around 3 p.m., officials received a call about a student having a gun on a school bus. Authorities say an elementary school student reported to the bus driver that one of the older students on the bus had a gun. The bus driver then told his supervisor to inform the police.

Washington County deputies and Chipley police officers responded to the scene and boarded the bus. They were then able to identify and detain the high school student.

The gun was reportedly located in the suspect’s backpack, along with other personal items belonging to the students. It was wrapped in a black T-shirt and the snout was the only part not covered.

After further investigation, the weapon was believed to be a toy gun modified to resemble a real firearm.

The high school student was arrested and charged with displaying a weapon on school property and disturbing the peace.
