PARKERSBURG — The art of a self-taught artist is on display this month in the lobby of WesBanco on Market Street.

Denise Harris is one of the many self-taught artists who has drawn and painted all her life and can’t remember a time when it wasn’t important to her. She works mainly with acrylic, but also with oil paint, and enjoys pencil sketches and colored pencils.

“My work includes still lifes, figurative pieces and scenes inspired by nature,” Harris said. “I enjoy the challenge of applying color to create depth and richness in each painting.”

Harris previously exhibited at WesBanco in 2020 and has done art shows at the Parkersburg Art Center, the Grand Central Mall and most recently in Artsbridge.

Some of Harris’s works are decorative, while others are more thought-provoking or just for fun.

“The blank canvas can be intimidating, but after a few brushstrokes I’m off,” Harris said.

When she is working, Harris likes to be in the picture and builds a small world with it. She hopes viewers will find their own joy in each painting.

Denise Harris’ art exhibit will be on display throughout the month of June in the lobby of WesBanco Bank, 415 Market St., Parkersburg, during regular business hours from 9:00 PM to 3:00 PM, Monday through Thursday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM on Fridays.
